MÖBIUS supports the project ‘Knowledge creates perspectives’

At the end of 2007, MÖBIUS made the resolution to apply itself to a good cause. Given MÖBIUS' commitment to the importance of the transfer of knowledge, a partner was soon found who holds this goal in equally high stead: the non-profit organisation, Amigos de Picos. The NGO was founded by four Belgians with the initiative and heart to make a difference. Together with MÖBIUS they share the vision that 'Knowledge creates perspectives'. Amigos de Picos focuses on providing individual assistance via scholarships and assistance for schools in the form of infrastructure. They ensure that children who would not normally get the chance, given their social background, are able to develop through their acquired knowledge into well-educated people with the expertise to be of service to the community in which they grew up. This is not only a positive evolution for the children and their families. It immediately creates hope and perspectives for the entire village.

The end-of-year period provided an ideal opportunity. We know from experience that sending traditional New Year's greeting cards is relatively expensive and - you have to admit - not especially creative. Our best wishes will from now on be passed on by means of a simple email. For every greeting card we sent out, we donated 1 euro to this charitable cause. Partners of MÖBIUS also had the opportunity to actively increase this amount even further. By replying to our Christmas card e-mailing, they doubled our contribution to the cause.

The result? The sum of 4.500 euro was raised for this great project with which MÖBIUS was able to sponsor the Colégio Sagrado Coraçao de Jesus primary school. The school principal has compiled a budget of 3.800 euro which will go towards setting up a classroom with 3 PC's and the necessary air-conditioning along with some furniture. This will enable the school to integrate a course in IT in the final year curriculum for pupils up to 14 years. For children who do not study further than primary school, this means they will at least have been confronted with the phenomenon of computers and the internet. Students who do continue will no longer be behind when progressing to high school. The remaining 700 euro will be put aside for a scholarship, enabling a child to attend the primary school.
